Europe
The most realistic place to get funded
Europe is the least examined destination among Uzbek families and at the same time the most realistic. The reason is simple: here the money follows family income, not grades. Italy's DSU system runs through regional agencies, is need-based, and is open to students from outside the EU. Hungary sets aside a separate quota for Uzbekistan every year. For most families these two routes are more realistic than any university in the US.
Next deadline
January 15, 2027
Stipendium Hungaricum 2027/28
Two separate portals, both mandatory. The date still needs confirming.
Who it suits
- An average family income with a strong student
- STEM subjects — the Hungarian quota gives them priority
- Those who need low living costs
- Those who want to study in English but cannot carry US prices
Who it does not suit
- Families with no time for paperwork — translation and legalisation for DSU take months
- Those who only want a recognised name
- Anyone drawn to the Netherlands — the number of English-taught programmes is shrinking, and each one has to be checked separately

Per year, English-taught programmes
Netherlands — undergraduate
€8 000–20 000
Per year, for non-EU students
The truth about funding
Italy's DSU is need-based support from regional agencies. Tuition, housing, meals and a cash stipend can arrive as one package. The key document is the ISEE Parificato, a measure calculated in Italy from the family's income and assets. Most Uzbek families fall under the threshold. The most common mistake is not ineligibility but starting the paperwork late. Hungary's Stipendium Hungaricum is a full scholarship: tuition is covered, housing is supported, a separate quota is set aside for Uzbekistan, and priority goes to engineering, medicine, IT and the natural sciences.
The most common mistakes
- 01Starting DSU paperwork late — translation and legalisation take months, and the reference year is the previous one
- 02Filling in only one Stipendium Hungaricum portal — both are mandatory, or it is an automatic rejection
- 03Taking free tuition in Germany for a grant — €11,904 for the blocked account is still required
- 04Not checking whether a Dutch programme will stay English-taught — the law changed and programmes are shrinking
- 05Taking Studielink registration for a submitted application — the university asks for documents separately
